Medieval Swords
The Middle Ages lasted from the 5th century to the 15th century, and the most common weapon of choice was the medieval sword. A medieval sword is a weapon primarily made up of two basic, fundamental parts: a relatively long, sharpened blade and a handle. Medieval swords were used and worn by knights and royalty only; commoners and the poor were unable to afford a sword because heavy weapons were very expensive. One could easily tell a person’s economic or political status in medieval society by what kind of weapon was at his or her side (if at all). Even though the sword is no longer a popular weapon for battle, many people still use swords of the medieval style for recreational purposes and for medieval martial arts. A sense of nostalgia and class accompanies these shiny weapons of old, and citizens all over the world are still captivated by their allure.
