This is basically an exact replica of the Type 98 Katana that was carried by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Before World War II all of the swords that were carried by the Imperial Japanese Army were equipped with two carrying rings. Because of the advice from a renown swordsman the samurai swords were given one ring. This allowed the sword to be carried much more easily and drawn more effectively during battle. The Type 98 sword was one of the only samurai swords used in combat during World War II.
Attributes of the Weapon:
Blade: The blade is handmade with high carbon steel and has a clayed Midare hamon that is authentic. It has been sharpened to a razor sharp edge that is batle ready. It also features a chu kissaki and medium sori, this gives the sword a very good balance.
Tsuka: The Fuchi is decorated with more ume blossoms in a relief. The Tsuka is made of hard wood over the tang of the blade with army colored itomaki and authentic samegawa. Two bamboo mekugi secures the tang to the Tsuka. A brass menuki is found on each side of the handle. The Kashira is cut to match the pommel with an eye hole cut out and steel ring.
Note: Saya: The scabbard is made of a hard wood with an olive green high gloss finish and a brass Koiguchi (scabbard throat). The pommel is cut out design with Ume blossoms in antiqued steel that is very durable. A steel fitting has replaced the sageo of the traditional katana. Consistent with World War II katana, there is only a single carrying ring that is made of steel. It also features a leather saya cover, consistent with the World War II Gunto. There is a release button as shown in the pictures.
Tsuba: The habaki is a two piece antiqued brass construction. The Tsuba is an almost exact replica of the Type 98 Officers sword used in World War II. There are four Ume blossoms on each corner of the guard, one of the beloved flowers of Japan. The guard has been given an antique finish.
Specifications will vary slightly in each samurai sword.

I received my Tanto and WW11 Katana on wednesday and have spent a great deal of time cutting mats and things like watermelons and pumpkins and I am very impressed with the power the Sword feels to have and is comparable to my other Swords. Thank you for all your help.
